 Tata Indicom Broadband / VSNL which successfully launched Wimax broadband services in Bangalore is all set to expand it to 12 more cities by the end of FY2009. Delhi NCR, Chennai and Hyderabad are the preferred cities for Wimax broadband. The company will invest Rs 2,000 crore to undertake the expansion. VSNL will also invest Rs 2,200 crore [$600 mn] to expand its backend submarine cable network.
Mr. Srinivas, Sr. VP said,
There are 10 million PCs in India and mere 2.9 mn broadband connections. There is no reason to believe those with PCs do not want broadband. There is a huge demand for broadband which current service providers are unable to meet.
