| Reliance BharatNet + Grameen VAS - Rural initiatives |
|
Reliance Communications, part of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG), sees a huge potential for its products in the rural market. The company has announced a slew of initiatives like BharatNet, Grameen VAS and M2M to increase its presence in the rural segment.
BharatNet is a high-speed wireless Internet service that will cover 20,000 rural locations. It will offer speeds of approximately 153 kbps. The service will be available across rural India, excluding metros and top 100 cities, at a weekly tariff of Rs 98 per week with download up to 350 MB.
Grameen VAS, a mobile phone based offering, will offer several specialised services such as Mandi Bhav (market price), agriculture and animal husbandry updates, weather forecast, local information, and news in multiple Indian languages. The service is priced at Rs 15 a month.
The M2M solutions include mobile applications that will help automation, surveillance, remote monitoring and data gathering.
The company stated that investments in the rural initiatives would be marginal and would not impact other initiatives. |
