The number of users online in India in March-2011 is mere 42 Million, according to comScre. India’s Usage Relatively Low Compared to Similarly Sized Countries.
Internet audience in India skews dramatically young: 75% of the web audience is under the age of 35, compared to 52% of the global average and 57% of the regional average. Males spend more time online than females in most age groups; the 35-44 year old age group is the exception: women spend 1.7 hours more online than males. According to TRAI’s report on the Telecom industry, gross revenue grew 4.1% in 4QFY11 vs. 4.9% in 3QFY11 which is a seasonally strong quarter. BSNL gained the highest (+49bps revenue share), followed by Idea (+29bps), and Tata Tele (+18bps) while
Bharti (-111bps) and RCOM (-59bps) lost share during the quarter. There could be some one-off reasons for the decline in Bharti’s revenue share.

Travel: The Top sites in Travel are topped by rail websites and online travel agents. 19.4 percent of web users visited the Indian Railways site in March, and average usage on that site, as well as on IndiaRailInfo.com, is about half an hour.
