Sify to host Webcast of Big Boss reality Show.

Sify Max, the broadband portal division of Sify Ltd has bought exclusive rights to host and market webcast clips of Sony Eentertainment's popular reality show, Big Boss.

SifyMax will feature the Bigg Boss show format, profile of the anchor, profiles of contestants who are part of the show, weekly results, chats, podcasts and message boards.

I checked out the site and it is interactive for Bigg Boss fans. It also has polls, task ideas, poll feedback, Big Boss blogs and an exclusive Bigg Boss merchandise store. You can visit Sify Big Boss site here.

However, I don't understand why Sify as an ISP sucks so bad ? Do you know ?

Airtel and BSNL Broadband PC Deals

BSNL, the state owned telecom giant was the first to market DataOne Broadband on PCs sold from HCL. BSNL offices would also book HCL PCs to push broadband connections and the customers usually got a deal such as 3 years onsite support service for FREE from HCL. This saw tremendous success and MTNL also started the same for its customers in Mumbai and Delhi.

Details of BSNL HCL Data One Broadband PC is here. PC Models available under BSNL HCL Deal are here.

MTNL - Triband Broadband HCL PC Deal details available here.

Bharti Tele-ventures Ltd, though a year late to announce similar deal, has announced that it has tied-up with Lenovo in India to push Airtel Broadband to new customers buying PCs from Lenovo. Under the deal, Airtel will offer its broadband services to Lenovo customers and Airtel is also waiving of the initial setup and installation charges for new broadband connections. PlayStation 3 available in Indian Grey Market

Sony Corporation's PlayStation 3 which went for sale in the US over Thanksgiving is now available in the Indian grey market. Sony India is expected to launch PS3 in Q2-2007.

PS3 which is competing directly with Xbox 360 is available in two versions - 20GB and 60GB HDD. The 60GB HDD console is also equipped with WiFi and Flash Card readers. The 20GB version costs $499 while the 60GB sells at $599. However, on an auction that ended on eBay just a while ago, the 20GB version sold at $855.

In New Delhi's Pallika Bazar, the 20GB console is available for $1,000 that's double the US retail price. PS3 games are priced in the range of Rs3,000 to Rs4,000 and initial reviews by gamers suggest that their are some backward compatabile issues - running PS2 games on PS3 console.

Google Ads for Mobile go live in India

We all know that Google and Yahoo! have been aggressively spending on research to get a pie of the worlds largest mobile markets - India and China.

Finally, Google has announced that it is testing Mobile Ads in India. So the next time when you use your mobile to search on Google, chances are that you might see a small ad next to search results. The ad can be in the form of a hyperlink or click-to-call ad.

This clears my doubts on where click-to-call ad reserach of Google is being deployed. But I wonder how many Indians are using GPRS and how many of them use Google from their mobile ? This is unlikely to kick-off until 3G becomes the order of the day in India.

Reliance Broadband for consumers - 2 more years

It is official now that Prakash Bajpai of Reliance Communications Ltd has told,
"We are adding 50,000-60,000 buildings (on broadband network) every month and our focus is on connecting buildings in the top business districts. We are initially focusing on commercial enterprises, and focus on households will come a little later. But we are serving houses within business districts"

This means that the long wait for consumers hoping to log on to Reliance Broadband is going to take few more months, say atleast 12-18 months. But the web ain't gonna wait. Go with other alternatives, Airtel Broadband or BSNL Broadband.

Vivah The Movie on Rajshri Broadband Portal - Really BAD

Rajshri Productions, makers of family entertainment movies like Hum Aaap Ke Hey Kaun and Hum Saath Saath Hey are all set to go broadband this time but will be in vain. I read about "Vivah" being made available online and decided to test their website(movie preview) before handing out my credit card. Looks like some high school kid has developed it. Here are the screen shots of the errors I got and didn't want to waste much time.

Rajshri is also talking of Digital Right Management and I wonder if they really know what it is. Ufff!!! Indian websites. Don't waste $9.99 downloading the movie, rather go and view it in a mall by booking tickets from the comfort your mobile.

Goa to be a Broadband State by end of 2007

The state of Goa well known to the rest of the world for its beautiful beaches is all set to be wired with broadband. The state Government has signed a Rs 150 crores ($33 Million) deal with United Telecom Ltd for the broadband roll out, which should be completed by the end of 2007.

Guess what ? Tourism is no more the Numero Uno industry for employment opportunities in Goa, it's all IT. They are also planning to price it cheaper than average electricity bill at mere Rs252/Month ($5).

WOW! You are connected to the world while you surf and sun bathe on the beautiful beaches of Goa :-)

Visitor Statistics on Broadband India and Analysis

Today I was at a meeting with one of my old acquaintances who is a stock broker. In the meeting he quoted "Brutus is an honourable Man" and said that their are still lot of Indians who are insecure to host their data on a website and prefer to have it on their PC and when they change their mind, he would think of web services.

OS Stats: To design his forms, I thought let me check BroadbandIndia's visitor statistics and to my surprise I have found that, only 4.5% users use Windows 98/ME. This is a good news for Windows Application Developers because Managed Code is a HELL on those two operating systems. I will still collect his client base information and see if the figures are any different.

Browser Stats: In early August, the share of IE users was significant. It was 90%. Latest data tells me that Firefox users have gone up to 16.36% and Opera to 1.88% the rest with Internet Explorer. Google has finally changed the users mind to go for FireFox.

Screen: Still a whopping 40% use 800*600 resolution. I think its because of the cheap availability of 15 inch flat screen monitors.

Rest: 97% are Java and Flash enabled.

Madhouse to ignite DVD rental war in India

Gone are the days of driving in frustration to your Video store and fighting with Videowalla that the VCD/DVD didn't play on your player and demanding a different disc which he won't have and will try to sell you duplicate printed VHS. Thanks to corporatization and organization of media and entertainment space. Enter, Madhouse (www.madhouse.in) serving consumers in Chandigrah, Delhi, Noida and surrounding areas with rapid expansion plans for the next two quarters.

Madhouse is thinking big in the media and entertainment space as they will not only rent you movies, but also games, music and audio books. Madhouse also intends to sell Movies. Madhouse is banking on high quality DVDs for ultimate entertainment experience, which the Indian consumer has been deprived for long time. If you ever watch a movie being played by an original DVD on your Flat Screen or 60 inch Plasma with Bose or other Home Theater system, I am sure you will never rent a VCD or BUY those cheap DVDs with 3 Movies recorded on a single DVD diluting the quality of music and picture.

Madhouse has waived account opening charges and competes with SeventyMM. Madhouse is open for subscription by invitation only. However, since you are reading this, you are a lucky soul. You can sign up with Madhouse now and avail 10% off as well. You will need a subscription code, which is "goBroadband".

If you have already tried Madhouse, kindly share your experience.
