AV Revolution 2007 - Bangalore

Rising income levels in Bangalore / Bengalooru has put the city in the eyes of the world's best music system retailers.

Audio Video Revolution 2007 has begun today @ Kanteerva stadium. I like good Audio Systems but I feel a specialist can do a better job in reviewing the same. Yes, I bumped into an old school friend of mine, who now works for Philips CES and also has a blog to review the Sound and Music Systems.

Also don't forget to check out the best of AV Revolution 2007 captured by him.

Bollywood on Demand - Return of the Intel Lobby

We have heard about the Indian economy being overheated, but what do you call these announcements about BSNL IPTV and Bollywood on Demand ?

IPTV never makes sense to me in the context of Indian consumer. Questions sent to Airtel and BSNL GM, Dr Chakravarty, on IPTV have went unanswered. I think the journalists reporting these stories have no knowledge about what they write. Take for instance the BSNL IPTV announcement, not even a single reporter thought of questioning BSNL chief the simplest question - Unlimited Bandwidth ?

Now we see that Eros entertainment is partnering with Intel to provide Bollywood content on demand. I don't know the inner details of Eros - Intel deal but Eros has confirmed in a written response that, only Intel platform users can view the content. This means if you have a Media Center PC powered by AMD64, you can't enjoy the Bollywood content distributed by Eros.

Are the regulators of fair market or MRTPC [Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commision] in India reading this article ?

Animation and Gaming India 2007

NASSCOM, India's voice for the IT and ITeS industry recently hosted the Indian Animation and Gaming conference in Hyderabad. Here are some important highlights about the Indian gaming industry.

  • The Indian Gaming industry was estimated to be USD 48 Million in 2006 and is likely to record a 72% CAGR over the next 4 years and reach USD 424 Million by 2010
  • Most of Indian gaming currently is PC based.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Indian Gaming industry exceeds the projections as Anil Ambani controlled Reliance Entertainment itself has committed $100 Million for its gaming venture, Zapak :-)

Personally, I have found that, most Game Developers are trying to develop the games in the context of Indian user by localizing the content to include characters from Bollywood or the world of Cricket.

The Indian Animation industry is expected to touch USD 869 Million by 2010.

WiMax Broadband by VSNL

India's leading ISP and international bandwidth carrier, VSNL along with Tata Indicom is set to live with IT Minister's words in making 2007 a year of broadband in India.

VSNL said that the cost of building wired broadband infrastructure per consumer is approximately Rs 20,000 and the same using Wimax deployment is Rs 25,000. VSNL however expects the WiMax based deployment costs to go down substantially in the next few years. VSNL is testing WiMax deployment in parts of Bangalore / Bengalooru city using Tata Indicom's towers but unsure when it will be made available to the consumer.

Reliance IPTV launch by end of 2008

Reliance Communications Ltd has done it yet again, this time around they have announced that their IPTV will be launched only by end of 2008. Earlier we had reported that Reliance had no consumer broadband plans in the near future.

Reliance was weighing the option of going for DTH - Reliance BlueMagic which seems to be on hold too.
