Public Grievance Portal - Government of India

Bangalore, Government OfficeCan you imagine this is happening in INDIA? Yes!!! The Government seems to be taking e-Governance very seriously. They have launched a new Portal - Online Public Grievance Lodging and Monitoring System.

The govt. wants people to use this tool to highlight the problems they faced while dealing with Government officials or departments like Passport Office, Electricity board, BSNL/MTNL, Railways etc.

Testimony of Online Public Grievance Lodging and Monitoring System:
A reader of our blog lives in Faridabad. Couple of months back, the Faridabad Municipal Corporation laid new roads in his area and the residents were very happy about it. But 2 weeks later, BSNL dug up the newly laid roads to install new cables which annoyed all the residents including this guy. But it was only this guy! Who used the above listed grievance forum to highlight his concern. And to his surprise, BSNL and Municipal Corporation of Faridabad were served a show cause notice and the guy received a copy of the notice in one week. Government has asked the MC and BSNL about the goof up as it's clear that both the government departments were not in sync at all.
So use this grievance forum and educate others who don't know about this facility. This way we can at least raise our concerns instead of just talking about the ' System ' in India. Invite your friends to contribute for many such happenings. Kindly be patient as these systems will take time to stabilize and don't lose your heart if complaint goes unattended for few days as we know - It only happens in India ;-)

Spectranet for Sale

Spectranet - an ISP in Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Bangalore with other Internet related activities such as Data Centers, Managed Bandwidth etc is planning to exit the business and put Spectranet on the block for sale.

Spectranet was one of the early ISPs that offered unlimited data transfer plans at 256 Kbps. However, with the parent company Punj Lloyd achieving new milestones in Construction and Infrastructure business, Spectranet is a non-core business and hence Punj Lloyd wants to exit at the right time when Telecom valuations are touching the roof.

Since the scale of Spectranet operations is limited to 3 cities, the company may not be able to commend big premium. However, if it has good OFC network in all these 3 cities, it can still expect a decent premium as it will help existing players such as Bharti Airtel or Reliance Communications to scale their high EBITDA broadband business.

Frost and Sullivan projects the Indian Broadband Market to Rs 5,124 crore by 2012.

Reliance Wired Broadband Subscribers

You are reading this first here in Global MediaReliance WiMax maybe a bundle of hurdles in-line with other WiMax service providers in India. However, Reliance's Wired Broadband has now connected 787,567 buildings [Apartments and offices in Central Business Districts] across 42 Cities in India. The real broadband subscribers count could be much higher.

We have obtained the No of Buildings Wired by Reliance Broadband High Speed Internet at the end of each quarter.

March-07: 488,661
June-07: 593,805
Sept-07: 666,368
Dec-07: 727,229
Mar-08: 787,567

However, the average revenue per broadband line has decreased from Rs 1,932 to Rs 1,760.

Bharti Airtel had 794,400 broadband subscribers at the end of March-08. The ARPU is at Rs 1,137. Bharti Airtel has been able to maintain the ARPUs, because they upgrade the available broadband speed to the customer and also try to increase the rates modestly. Even if 25% of the customers like me upgrade ourselves, they are able to maintain the bottom line.

Just, FYI, I started with 128 Kbps in Apr-06 at Rs 699 for unlimited data transfer. Today I am on 1 Mbps unlimited data transfer for Rs 2,222. Dramatic increase in broadband speed in the past 2 years :-)
