Industry Analysts expect plastic-based OLED panels to penetrate small-sized display, handsets, and tablet PCs from 2Q12F, and the penetration of OLED panels in TVs in 2012F.

Why OLED is Special ?
OLED products will effect a major change in the display market in 2012F. They can be classified into mobile and TV applications to see structural changes clearly.

In the mobile area, expect explicitly different devices: 1) plastic-based bendable display equipped handsets; and 2) very light and unbreakable display-equipped tablet PCs. Samsung is likely to be the only supplier for such products in 2012F.

In the TV area, expect the first 55” OLED TVs, to be launched by Samsung and LG, in the summer of 2012.

Applications of OLED
Bendable and unbreakable plastic OLED equipped smartphones + Plastic OLED equipped tablet PC + Foldable (clam shell‐type) screen equipped device.

Production costs for OLED may be able to be smaller than those for LCD, but OLED has higher-quality display than LCD;Converting low-value LCD lines to high-value OLED lines could lower production costs while improving profitability.
