IF India has made 512 Kbps as the base speed for Internet Access, China has gone a step ahead.
China Unicom recently started to speed up broadband access in Beijing free of charge. All Beijing users will enjoy the enhanced service, and for clients whose broadband speed is 512 KB, it will be accelerated to 1 MB. Existing 1 MB-users will upgrade to 2 MB, and 2 MB will go up to 10 MB. The upgrade will be completed by the end of this month.
Meanwhile, government officials from MIIT commented recently that their main mission this year is to raise Internet access speed and cut tariffs to promote broadband in order to raise China’s broadband penetration rate (38.3% by end of 2011).
