Government controlled MTNL has raised ISD call tariffs from Rs 1 / Minute to Rs 2 / Minute applicable to USA, China, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand. The tariff hike is effective immediately and is for Landline and Post-Paid Mobile Customers. MTNL ISD / ILD tariffs is still the cheapest compared to Airtel and other private telecom operators who charge between Rs 6 to Rs 15 for these countries.

Why did MTNL Hike ILD /ISD Call Tariffs ?
Due to rapid depreciation and weakening of the Indian Rupee, MTNL had no choice but to hike the tariff. Yes, economics says as the Rupee Weakens, Imports are costlier. In the same way, MTNL has to pay call termination charges. This termination charge is fixed and is in USD. However, when BUYING USD gets expensive by 20%, MTNL had no choice but to pass on the burden to consumers.
