Reliance Wireless - WiMax Broadband Connection

    Hi,
I am starting this new topic to carryon the discussion about Reliance WiMax.

(WiMAX, the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, is a telecommunications technology aimed at providing wireless data over long distances in a variety of ways, from point-to-point links to full mobile cellular type access. It is based on the IEEE 802.16 standard, which is also called WirelessMAN. WiMAX allows a user, for example, to browse the Internet on a laptop computer without physically connecting the laptop to a wall jack. The name WiMAX was created by the WiMAX Forum, which was formed in June 2001 to promote conformance and interoperability of the standard. The forum describes WiMAX as "a standards-based technology enabling the delivery of last mile wireless broadband access as an alternative to cable and DSL.")

Think about how you access the Internet today. There are basically three different options:

    * Broadband access - In your home, you have either a DSL or cable modem. At the office, your company may be using a T1 or a T3 line.

    * WiFi access - In your home, you may have set up a WiFi router that lets you surf the Web while you lounge with your laptop. On the road, you can find WiFi hot spots in restaurants, hotels, coffee shops and libraries.

    * Dial-up access - If you are still using dial-up, chances are that either broadband access is not available, or you think that broadband access is too expensive.

The main problems with broadband access are that it is pretty expensive and it doesn't reach all areas. The main problem with WiFi access is that hot spots are very small, so coverage is sparse.

What if there were a new technology that solved all of these problems? This new technology would provide:

    * The high speed of broadband service
    * Wireless rather than wired access, so it would be a lot less expensive than cable or DSL and much easier to extend to suburban and rural areas
    * Broad coverage like the cell phone network instead of small WiFi hotspots

This system is actually coming into being right now, and it is called WiMAX. WiMAX is short for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, and it also goes by the IEEE name 802.16.

WiMAX has the potential to do to broadband Internet access what cell phones have done to phone access. In the same way that many people have given up their "land lines" in favor of cell phones, WiMAX could replace cable and DSL services, providing universal Internet access just about anywhere you go. WiMAX will also be as painless as WiFi -- turning your computer on will automatically connect you to the closest available WiMAX antenna.

Re: Reliance Wireless - WiMax Broadband Connection

    Hi All,

Reliance wimax customer support is worst and they hardly care what a customer is going thru. I got a wimax connection in banaglore in hanumanth nagar area one and half month agao. Recently i was not able to connect the internet. I lodged a companint on 4th of september and i was told that some will call u and solve the problem. So after 2 days no calls i called the customer support again gave them the so called "COMPLAINT NUMBER" i was again told that you isse is in solving status I told the executive to transfer the call to supervisor he did that...after keeping me on hold for about 8 minutes. I spoke to supervisor SANDEEP he assured me that within 24 hours you will get a call. BUT NO AFTER ALL IT IS RELIANCE..So after 2 days I again gave a call to customer support and again same FAKE ASSURANCE...TILL DATE I HAVE NOT GOT ANY CALL FROM ANYWHERE...I work from home and I HAVE LOST around 8 thousand ruppes BECAUSE of RELIANCE WIMAX...WHO IS THE CONCERNED PERSON.....They always say that you query has been forwarded to the concerned department...IS THIS DEPARTMENT WORKING FOR BILL GATES...are they so busy that even after 10 days they cannot give a call to a customer....IT WILL BE BETTER if you guys shut Rliance Wimax services....

I would suggest that no one should opt for..RELIANCE WIMAX....WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE...

Thanks to Wimax technology and Reliance. The speeds is good. no connection drops and other problems which other ppl in this forum have complained never occured. The only problem that I face is sometimes the network is down. I guess that is something to do with their servers or there was something wrong at thier base station.

"Reliance Wimax Broadband ****s!! Dont go for it" .. I think this is true (Please ignore my previous post)..
Most of the times.. the connection will break after 40-45 mins..... The network icon reads..'Lost connetivity or poor network.... bla bla'
I am facing the problem for the past 1-2 Weeks....
I called the Reliance number which they posted in their website and also in the bill... I faced the following problem
    1) Their toll free number dosn't work
    2) They don't have bangalore number
    3) They posted mumbai number.
When I called this number.. it took 3-4 mins for ..."press 1 for x.. 2 for y... again 1... 3... 9 bla bla"
then i could hear a phone ringing
finally one reliance customer care guy picked the call after 10-15 mins ...he was not able to handle my problem ... then he transferred the call...
again.. same story... phone ringing... after 3-4 mins... same guy picked the phone... told me to press 1,2,9.after a beep.. I pressed..1 for english...... 2.. and 9 ...no body picked the call..this losted 30-35 mins...
Please carryon the discussion (I am opting to move out).......

Don't even make the mistake of taking reliance wi max. This is pathetic. The tower was not even 200 meters aways from my house and the connection seemed like as if the tower is 60 kms away. when i checked the speed it showed 30 kbps. Moreover there were many days when I could not connect to the net. Only after I kicked the system away and took Dataone I got a relief.
