Tata Indicom WiMax Up and Running in Bangalore
Wi-Fi hasn’t lived to the hype that it generated in India with literally no operational citywide networks. However, WiMax is seeing increased adoption. After Reliance, Tata Communications [VSNL] has launched Indicom broadband powered by WiMax technology in Bangalore.
We all know that VSNL is the pioneer of Internet in India yet it faced serious setbacks lately, due to poor over head cable connections, etc. [Getting to the bottom of the problem, we found out VSNL Cable Internet was in association with local Cable guys. Due to competition amongst Cable guys, muscle power and unethical practices including cable cuts were common] With Tata brand name under pressure, they decided to go broadband with WiMax technology. Unlike Reliance which launched in a hurry, Tata Communications seem to have tested for atleast 60 days here in Bangalore.
Tata Communications Wimax broadband should be available in any corner of Bangalore because they have kicked off with 140 WiMax Towers, a terrific number. Did you know that the service provider installs a WiMax antenna costing approximately Rs 10,000 for FREE and takes it back if you discontinue the service. So this implies no more breaking head with city corporations for right of way to lay cables as BSNl has setup its DSL backed broadband network.
The rates are competitive and are comparable to Airtel Broadband. The only thing we now need to see is the performance
