Sunil Mittal was the first dare devil CEO of the telecom sector in the world to outsource Network and Infrastructure management to companies such as IBM/Nokia etc. Soon the copy machines were in force – Hutch, Idea and now Aircel is copying the same business model.

Aircel, subsidiary of Maxis Telecom, Malaysian company is outsourcing its network infrastructure and management operations to Nokia Siemens. The deal is worth Rs 300 crore and is for the Kolkatta GSM circle. Nokia Siemens will lay and maintain the 3G GSM network. They will also make the network ready for 3G and Wimax services. Aircel plans to be a PAN India cellular operator and already has licenses but no spectrum :-) It also has licenses for ILD and NLD.

The manner in which Aircel is going ahead with its VAS plans..u never know..it already is the leader in 4 circles of the country…Some of my close pals are developing VAS prototypes for Aircel and they say that these applications rock!!…I think Aircel is going to cause a flutter in years to come….
